Tactical Catholic’s Review of TouringPlans.com

URL: http://www.touringplans.com

I have actually been using the information from TouringPlans.com to help me plan Disney trips since about 2003, so this is a site I’m quite familiar with.  However, it wasn’t nearly as powerful as it is now.  This website has exploded with information and tools in the last five years and you’re gonna love it.

If you like Walt Disney World and you’d like to visit Orlando within the next 12 months, you need to use TouringPlans.  The geniuses there have compiled all the best information from their own research as well as other helpful web resources so that you have the absolute best Disney World data at your fingertips.  What’s more, they put out a book with even more detailed information on the parks and Orlando (including Universal parks).  The Unofficial Guide to Walt Disney World is an annual purchase in my house so that I’m aware, even if we aren’t travelling to Florida that year, of all the new things and any modifications to the parks. Yes, I am a nerd, but even non-nerds will benefit from the helpful information contained in the book.

However, this is a web review, not a book review. Here are a few of the helpful tools available to you through TouringPlans.com.

Multiple Destination Information

At TouringPlans you can find information about Walt Disney World, Disney Cruise Lines, Universal Orlando, and Disneyland.  Detailed data for each park is provided.

  • Find best times to visit with detailed park attendance predictions.  It’s based on years of collected data and its amazingly accurate.
  • Dining menus, restaurant reviews, and calculators to help you find the best meal options for your trip
  • Touring plans for each park to help you maximize your fun time and reduce the time spent waiting in lines.
  • Ticket information and ways you can find the absolute best prices on park admission

Lines Mobile App

The Lines app (available for Android, iOS, or as a web application) is a great tool to use in the parks with live information for ride wait times, customizable touring plans, menus and prices for all restaurants and snack vendors, and fun ways to interact with other Disneyphiles while you play.  If you’re a subscriber to the touringplan service, you can do even more.  Even the free features of the app are fun and helpful.

Hotel Data

This is a cool feature that I’ve always loved, and now it’s better.  Not only does the research team at TouringPlans provide reviews and ratings of every hotel, motel, and resort around Orlando, they also provide helpful details such as

  • room dimensions
  • noise levels
  • lighting
  • ease of access
  • considerations for persons with special needs
  • pools
  • amenities
  • customer service
  • pillows (no joke)

My favorite feature for the Disney World Resort hotels is the ability to not only see what the inside of a room looks like, but what the view FROM the room looks like.  EVERY ROOM IN THE PARK!

In a nutshell, if you’re planning a Disney trip you need to use TouringPlans.com.  On a personal note, if you’re planning a trip in the next 12 months, start as early as you can in order to get the best deals.  If you need advice about making a plan or when to go, or ages for kids, contact me because I love to talk about Disney parks.  I also recommend you buy the Unofficial Guide to Walt Disney World.  It’s like $20 but it is full of cool stuff.
