Other Duties as Needed – Catholic Man Job Description

You’ve seen this in a job description, “Other duties as needed.” That translates to “work you weren’t expecting as part of this job.” Did you know this applies to manhood?

As Catholic men, we know we are called first to holiness and fidelity to Christ. After that is our vocation. Whether you are called to holy orders, to marriage, or to live as a single person, your responsibilities will grow beyond your expectations. Why? Because we learn more as we grow, and because as God forms us, we have greater capacity to serve.

We don’t always see that capacity. In fact, sometimes we feel downright exhausted. It is in that moment we may be challenged to do more. Do not resent this. God is challenging you because, like a good boss/coach, He knows you have what it takes.

Men, there is no excuse for coasting or watching the clock. It only grows laziness and makes us more prone to fall into tempation. God knows our limits better than we do, and He will provide rest and renewal on his clock.

I guess what I have learned, and am working hard to perfect, is that our Catholic life is hard work, and there is no place for laziness. Trust God. Trust your training. Keep working. Consider offering every day as a sacrifice to God for the reparation of sins and His praise.
